The ultimate talk of the town of the past years is going on a big tour all over Greece!

Directed by Yiannis Kakleas
Starring Panos Vlahos

Following two overwhelmingly sold-out seasons and numerous theatrical awards, the “performance of the year” is going on a big summer tour, after having astounded 140,000 spectators and having been the talk of the town in Athens and Thessaloniki for the past two years.

This dazzling play, this highly in-demand theatre ticket, is travelling to selected cities all over Greece, giving theatre lovers the chance to enjoy a performance with demonic energy, songs, live music and caustic humour brought to the stage by a group of actors who play, dance, sing and satirise their own current reality through the play’s story.

Under the direction of Yiannis Kakleas, actors Panos Vlahos, Foivos Rimenas, Ifigenia Asteriadi, Konstantinos Magklaras, Panagiotis Katsolis and Stelios Petsos introduce us to Dario Fo’s caustic and denouncing universe!

Dario Fo, this ingenious dramaturgist, based on real events that took place in Italy during turbulent times, wrote an astonishingly denouncing satire about violence, idiocy, the arbitrariness of authority, fabricated lies, and purposely “blind” justice which serves a corrupted system.

THE PLAY

A witty and timely comedy strips authority bare while presenting the “compelling” evidence used to incriminate someone. An open window on the sixth floor can become a solution when self-composure is lost and death will be simply archived as “accidental”!

In his play, Dario Fo manages to uncover/expose the murder of “anarchist” railroad worker Giuseppe Pinelli, committed by the Italian police. Using satire and irony, the playwright denounces the tragic event and decries power abuse. Even though this play was written long ago to criticise the Italian justice system’s arbitrary authority and government corruption, it’s easy for today’s spectators to notice many similarities with current Greek society.

In Dario Fo’s words: “The play has been performed with continuous success ever since it was written; perhaps because bloodshed, bombings, big words and great scandals keep increasing every now and then… Always being caused by the same systems that organise violence and cannot tolerate the people who refuse to obey.”

THE PERFORMANCE

The play, the plot and Dario Fo’s controversial views constitute the foundation on which we humorously comment on our own reality in our performance, following the playwright’s opinion:
“I don’t consider my plays to be complete, but open to continuous differentiations. Even today, whoever performs a play of mine anywhere in the world should be aware that my scripts are a fluid material, able to be adapted and shaped in the form of one’s own reality, able to include references that will make the theatre’s parquet get angry, ponder and laugh.”

Taking Dario Fo’s play as our starting point, our performance follows the footprints of an archetypal Jester; an ever relevant funny figure who poses a threat to every authority and stereotype. We begin from his birth, continue to his journeys in space and time, and end up in the here and now.
