The group "Mystes", with the support of the Amateur Troupe of Andros
"Alalum", presents in the context of the 8th International Festival of Andros, the
"Hippolytus" by Euripides, on August 3, at the Open Theater of Chora.

Hippolytus, obsessively clinging to virginity, defies love, that life-giving force, begetter of beings. So he despises women, the mothers of the world. Aphrodite, deeply offended by his attitude, instills lust for him in the soul of his stepmother, Phaedra, and Hippolytus is driven to his death by the curses of Theseus' father. But even then, unshaken, he continues to believe that he is a harmless, innocent victim of Aphrodite. But we, the viewers reason, one simple act or inaction, a link in a chain of so many others, has the power to bring about the prosperity or ruin of entire generations. The young man who refuses to cross the threshold of puberty and fall in love threatens life itself, which reproduces itself only through union. Hippolytus is called upon to renounce Artemis, to face the ordeal of the bull and move into life, into marriage, into the flow of society. He chooses abstinence, an abstinence that inevitably leads to sterility. The viewers learn: We have a duty to each other to guard against our hubris, born of our innate individualism, even when this hubris appears as a moral stance. We have a duty to always strive to understand the long-term consequences of our actions. The measure is always ourselves, the people. We have a duty to always strive to understand the long-term consequences of our actions. The measure is always ourselves, the people. We have a duty to always strive to understand the long-term consequences of our actions. The measure is always ourselves, the people."Man is the measure of all money" - "Man is the measure of all things." (Protagoras)
