Achla Beach

Αchla beach

Andros’ Achla beach is one of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Greece. Its majestic emerald waters, fine sand and white pebbles are what makes it so special.
The beach is part of a rich bioreserve, with a captivating plane tree forest, and it’s the estuary of river Achlas. The view is complemented by the church of Saint Nicholas, located on one edge and Gria Lighthouse right across it; thus creating an otherworldly scenery.

Achlas River, a rich natural reserve

Achla were named after the Achlas River, running through the slopes of Vourkoti mountains and into the sea, creating spectacular views of nature. Achlas is one of the three largest rivers of Andros with running water even on the hottest and driest days of summer. The area is a home to brackish crabs, eels, sea turtles, rabbits and fireflies. It is also a stop for migratory birds, such as Eleonora’s Falcon, a medium - sized falcon that rests in Achla before it reaches Madagascar, its final destination.
