The Castle of Makrotantalo in Andros

The Castle of Makrotantalo or the Tower of Ostodosia, is located at the northwestern end of the beach of Pyrgos. This is the smallest of the three known Venetian castles on the island and has several similarities with the "famous" Lower Castle of Chora. In the 13th century Marinos Dandolos (also known as Tantalos), was a Venetian governor of Andros and donated the entire area along with the castle to his brother Markos, from whom he took the name Makrotantalo.
